Juve to Berlin, Real Madrid out!
Real Madrid drew 1 – 1 with Juventus in the semi finals of the Champions League thus losing 3-2 on aggregate. Cristiano Ronaldo scored for Madrid but Ex Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata struck one back for Juventus sending them to the Finals in Berlin. Morata who was sold last season has scored twice against Real Madrid in these two games.
The score-line would have been different had the players from both teams converted the chances they had as the game was filled with plenty of opportunities for both teams.Bale had the first opportunity to score in just 40 seconds but he headed Marcelo’s cross effort over the bar. Benzema then got the ball at his feet and did well to keep it too but could not finish and blasted the ball wide off the mark.
Ronaldo then took a brilliant free kick but Buffon was quick to tip it over the crossbar. Vidal then took a shot from the edge of the box but Casillas did well to keep the ball out of the net. Later on, Benzema and Bale took great efforts to break the deadlock but it was the Italian keepers’ ability and experience which allowed him to deny them both the opportunity to get past him.
Madrid were awarded a penalty when Giorgio Chiellini’s tackle brought down James Rodriguez in the box. The Portuguese star’s goal in Italy was what kept them alive in this fixture. Ronaldo made no mistake and scored past Buffon with ease, giving Madrid the lead. Benzema got a chance to double the lead but failed to do so as he failed to finish. Madrid got plenty of chances till the end of the first half and even during the second but it was Juventus who managed to score the next goal.
Pogba headed the ball to the Ex Real Madrid man who controlled the ball with his chest and then blasted the ball with his left foot which easily beat Casillas to get Juve back in the game. Both team squandered off some great opportunities, Madrid’s failure to convert is what cost them a berth in the finals.
