Arsenal right-back Mathieu Debuchy is out with a shoulder injury which he suffered at Emirates in his side’s 3-0 win at Stoke.
The extent of the injury is not yet known and Wenger said things will be clear after he is examined by the specialists.
Arsene Wenger said: "It's dislocated so it will take a while. He will have to see a specialist."
Arsenal are already running thin on defenders and Wenger hasn’t ruled out that he may plunge into the market and sign a defender, particularly a centre-back.
"Nacho Monreal and Debuchy can play centre-back. But if Gibbs is not here, Monreal cannot play centre-back and if Debuchy is not here, he cannot play centre-back.
"This is a position where we are short."
