Mumbai FC have a bad day in office, go down 6-0 to Shillong Lajong
Mumbai, April 3:
Cornell Glen scored a brace with goals from Penn Orji, Zodingliana Ralte, Uilliams Souza and Milan Singh also getting on the scoresheet.
Mumbai FC started the better of the two sides as they created a couple of good moves which were disrupted by an alert Lajong defense.
Midway through the first half, the Mumbai outfit lost their way by conceding two soft goals within the space of five minutes.
Thereafter, Mumbai tried to force their way back in with a couple of chances which befell Nicholas Rodrigues who couldn’t convert them.
A half-time, Lajong lead by 2-0.
Any hopes of Mumbai FC making a comeback went up in the air as Lajong scored another two quick goals through Ralte and Glen.
Ashutosh Mehta had the best chance but his effort took a touch of Rehenesh and kissed the crossbar on its way out.
As Mumbai FC committed numbers forward, Lajong took advantage and hit them on the break with goals from Williams and Milan Singh which sealed three crucial points for the visitors.
“I take full responsibility for the defeat. I didn’t pick the right players for the game. Full credit to Shillong Lajong as they were tactically, physically and mentally were far better than us. They were right on top of their game from the onset,” said a disheartened Khalid Jamil in his post-match media address.
Mumbai FC continue to remain on 12 points from 11 matches as they suffered their first home defeat this season and fifth overall.
Meanwhile, Shillong Lajong registered only their third win this term as they amassed ten points and moved to eighth position, just a slot behind Mumbai FC.
