Navy and ONGC romp to victories

Mumbai, April 15: Indian Navy and ONGC (Oil & Natural Gas Corporation) scored identical 1-0 victories in their respective Elite Division matches of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) League – 2014-15, played at the Cooperage ground, on Wednesday.

In the morning, Navy did well to overcome Rashtriya Chemical & Fertilizers with striker Sunil K. Naik netting the all-important winning goal in the 55th minute.

Later in the evening, ONGC broke down the resistance from Central Railway and in particular goalkeeper Pramod Kumar before snatching a late winner through F. Lalmuanpuia. Central Railway goalkeeper Kumar proved to be a hard nut to crack and restricted the opponents who dominated the match to just one goal. Kumar showed good anticipation and excellent reflexes to thwart attempts from ONGC attackers, Kailash Patil, Joel Sequeira, Lavino Fernandes and substitute Sachin Gawas but was unfortunate to concede the lone goal which deflected in off a defender.

Results – Elite Div: Indian Navy 1 (Sunil K. Naik) beat Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers 0.

ONGC 1 (F. Lalmuanpuia 86th) beat Central Railway 0.
