Manchester United are considering a surprise move for Dutch midfielder and former Manchester City star Nigel de Jong.

United have racked up an £8 million bid to secure De Jong’s services at Old Trafford of whom manager Louis van Gaal is a fan.

The 29-year-old is also keen to join his former national manager van Gaal at The Theatre of Dreams with chief executive Ed Woodward doing everything in his power to make the move happen.

The former Manchester City player has made 45 appearances for AC Milan over two seasons and looks to leave the struggling Italian side.

Van Gaal is all praises for the player and has commended the midfielder for his performances during the recently concluded World Cup.
