PSG vs Barcelona Match Preview

Overview

PSG

The capital club have made an indifferent start to their new league campaign as they are struggling to get into their unreal selves in Ligue 1.

Laurent Blanc is highly disappointed with his side’s inability to brush aside the very same opponents this term, which they used to breeze past just a season ago. Defensive frailties have been their biggest drawback this term despite spending a mammoth £49m on David Luiz.

Le Parisiens who are touted to be the dark horses for this season’s Champions League were shoddy in their opening fixture against Ajax as they managed only a 1-1 draw at the Amsterdam Arena.

PSG will be hoping to kick start their season with a morale boosting win over Catalan giants.

Barcelona

Barcelona under Luis Enrique has been a revelation this season. They are back to what the media is calling back to their ‘best’.

Barcelona is undefeated in all competitions and is yet to concede single goal as well. This new found defensive solidity this season has been a major factor in their revival this season, coupled with their solid midfield and top notch attack comprising of Lionel Messi and Neymar, they are surely hot favourites to win the tournament, all this with Luis Suarez yet to feature.

Barca scrapped past APOEL Tel Aviv with a 1-0 win thanks to a Gerrard Pique header. But still have got what it takes to get past PSG in Paris.

Team News

PSG

The home side will be without their talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic. It should be considered as a massive jolt to PSG’s attacking prospects in this game as they are also without their other experienced striker in Argentine Ezequiel Lavezzi.

If this was not enough, their captain Thiago Silva is also doubtful for the fixture. The defender will undergo a late fitness test.

Barcelona

Barcelona have no major injury concerns, with their new right back Douglas Costa is the only one who is unavailable for their trip to Paris. Luis Suarez with his ban still in effect, is other notable absentee.

Probable Lineups

PSG

Sirigu; Van der Wiel, David Luiz, Marquinhos, Maxwell; Verratti, Thiago Motta, Matuidi; Pastore, Cavani, Lucas.

Barcelona
