Quaresma to join Besiktas
Ricardo Quaresma is on the verge of signing for Turkish side Be?ikta?. He will reunite with the club after 3 years. “Negotiations with Quaresma and his club FC Porto for the transfer have begun,” Be?ikta? said. The Portuguese arrived in Istanbul yesterday and his transfer is expected to be finalized and done with in this week itself. Quarsema has previously played for Be?ikta? from 2010 – 2012, scoring 18 goals and providing 20 assists in 73 appearances. The 31-year-old Portuguese winger was a fan favorite during his time at Be?ikta?.
Once compared to Cristiano Ronaldo, his career had seen a downward trajectory since his departure from Porto the first time as he failed to live up to his name as well as make an impact for Italian side Inter. The comparisions soon died out and he was loaned out English side Chelsea during the 2008-09 season but managed to make just 4 appearances for the blues. Be?ikta? then signed the Portuguese international from Inter in 2010. In 2012, he joined Al Ahil but was signed by Porto, later into that season. His second spell with Porto was highly successful and he manged to revive his career, he had score 20 goals in 68 appearances for the Portuguese side as well as helped them get to the quarter finals of the Champions League last season.
Be?ikta? fans have been demanding a high profile transfer as their title rivals, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray. Dutch striker Robin van Persie and Nani have been signed by Fenerbahce and German International Lukas Podolski has been signed by Galatasaray.
