Radamel Falcao to don the Blue jersey
Chelsea FC have signed Colombian forward Radamel Falcao on a season long loan deal from French side AS Monaco. He managed to score four goals in 29 appearances for Manchester United last season.
Chelsea made the news public when they posted the following tweet from their official twitter account
"@ChelseaFC is delighted to announce we have agreed terms with Monaco for the season-long loan of @FALCAO... #CFC "
Falcao was expected to lead the attack for the Red Devils last season, but failed to do so. Falcao was still recovering from a knee injury, and the ex Atletico Madrid man never found his rhythm and his performances upset the fans and the manager alike. United who had signed el Tigre on loan with an option to purchase, decided against making his loan deal a permanent one. United rejected the chance to sign him for a reported £43.2m.
Falcao, who joined Monaco in 2013, scored 70 goals in 2 extra-ordinary seasons playing for Atletico Madrid, before which he had netted 72 in two season for Portuguese side FC Porto. New signing Falcao and current Chelsea striker Diego Costa have played together in the 2013 Copa del Rey finals where they managed to beat Mourinho’s Madrid 2 – 1.
He is known for his ability to Finish the ball well and shoot from a distance. He is also known to be an indirect set piece threat. He is however criticised to not hold the ball well and not contribute enough defensively.
"It hurts me that people in England think that the real Falcao is the one we saw at Manchester United. If I can help Falcao reach his level again, I will do it." Mourinho said in an interview earlier this year.
Midfielder Mario Pasalic has moved to AS Monaco. The 20-year-old midfielder has moved to the club as part of the deal that helped Radamel Falcao’s move to the Stamford Bridge and he is keen to prove himself as Geoffrey Kondogbia's successor.
It would be interesting to see whether Mourinho can get the best out of the forward or would El Tigre suffer like he did under Mourinho’s teacher Van Gaal. As per rumours, Loic Remy is expected to leave Chelsea to make room for El Tigre.
