Robin Van Persie to Fenerbahce
Turkish side Fenerbahce have opened talks to sign Manchester United striker Robin van Persie.
Van Persie switched from playing at Emirates to playing at Old Trafford for £24m in 2012 and scored 26 goals in his maiden season with United helping them win the title in 2012-13. But the Striker has struggled with injury and scored just 10 goals last season. The Dutch Forward may have a year left on his contract but United are looking to offload the player as they plan to look for a striker who will score 20 goals at minimum each season.
Ex-United team-mate Nani joined Fenerbahce, runners-up in the Super Lig last season, for £4.25m on Monday. "I haven't had the chance to talk with Robin van Persie yet," Nani said. "But if he comes to Fenerbahce, I am sure that he will be very successful. I know Robin very well and it would be the right decision if Fenerbahce sign him."
With Van Persie set to depart, United are now facing shortage of strikers. Rooney and Wilson being the only two options available as Javier Hernandez is out for an unknown period of time having broken his collarbone and Radamel Falcao signed for title rivals Chelsea. Manchester United's new signing Depay can play in the center but is traditionally a winger. Louis Van Gaal stressed on Depay's ability to play in multiple positions but he would need time to adapt to the Premier League.
Robin Van Persie had managed to score 132 goals in 278 appearances for the Gunners and 58 times in 105 games for the Red Devils. Van Persie is the Netherlands' all-time top scorer with 49 goals in 98 games.
