Swansea City have completed the signing of defender Federico Fernandez from Napoli, subject to international clearance. The fee is undisclosed but is believed to be around £7m by the English media outlets. Fernandez who failed to secure a regular spot in his three spell at Napoli, was part of the Argentinian squad, for whom he started 4 of the 7 world cup games, and was a unused substitute in the finals versus Germany.

Fernandez, will replace Chico Flores, who joined the Qatari side Lekhwiya last week. Federico will wear No. 33 for the Welsh club.

Swansea’s official statement:

"Swansea City are delighted to confirm the signing of Napoli and Argentina defender Federico Fernandez for an undisclosed fee, subject to international clearance," read a statement on the Premier League club's website.

"The 25-year-old passed his medical on Monday before putting pen to paper on a four-year deal at the Liberty today (Wednesday)."

Manager Gary Monk to BBC:

“[Fernandez] brings that pedigree where he’s been playing for Napoli at the top level and for Argentina at the World Cup.”

He continued, “The age that he’s at is very good for us and the type of player that he is. He’s a good size, a very good footballer and someone who will suit Swansea City. The type of players that we try and identify to come in here are ones that add quality to the squad and he definitely will do that.”

The Own Goal he scored against Udinese - something Swansea hope he will not repeat:
