The first Kolkata Derby of the season is here, and what a way to start it. Having almost sold 72,000 tickets for the game, the city of Kolkata is again divided into two.
The Gold and Red of Mohun Bagan and the Maroon and Green of East Bengal will be seated on different sections of the stadium.
The two teams will renew their rivalry for the first time in this seasons I league. East Bengal who come in to the game having played five times already take on cross town rivals Mohun Bagan.
Two teams who have been ever present in the history of Indian Football, the teams have suffered a blip in their form but it never is a major point for their passionate fans. With both coaches pointing towards it.
Here's both the coaches before the big game:
Kingfisher East Bengal Coach Armando Colaco said, “Right now, I'm not thinking about the Mohun Bagan match. My full focus is on the Bharat FC game. I will start thinking about the derby from Monday onwards. I feel we will be starting as underdogs in the derby as we have not performed to our potential in the last few games."
McDowell's Mohun Bagan Chief Coach Sanjoy Sen said, “It's quite unusual to discuss about the derby match, which will be played after 3 days. Since anything can happen in these 3 days, I'm sorry that I'm not in a position to tell you anything definite about my team right now. However, I would like to say that we are neither favorites nor the underdogs. These things don't matter in a derby. The team that will play better football will win the game.“
Cautious Sen also said that, “East Bengal has a very good attacking force with Ranty being the most dangerous striker in Indian football and the pair of Ranty and Dudu can destroy any defense.“
