1. That Hertha Berlin won the Multiple German Championship.

The club was formed in 1892 as BFC Hertha 92. The Club has since its inception performed well on and off the field. They finished Runners up 1926 to 1929 before finally winning The German Championship twice in the years 1930 and 1931.

Erm, it is 123 years old today!


2. That they have scored 9 times past Dortmund’s keeper in one match!
They won 9:1 vs. Borussia Dortmund in a league match in the year 1969. They finished 3rd in Bundesliga that year. They also beat Eintracht Frankfurt 5 – 0 in 1977.


Oh yeah! That’s right! They Killed it!!


3. That it was named after a ship.
One of their 4 founding members went on a one day trip, he travelled on this ship called –Yea you guess it right– Hertha. The name Hertha is is a variation on Nerthus, goddess from Germanic mythology.


Yes! That’s right, it’s something different.


4. That their Current Club Manager is a club legend.

Pál Dárdai - Their Current Manager holds the record of the Maximum Appearances for the Club. He made 366 appearances for the club in the 14 years he played for the German side.


Agreed? Club Legend!!


5. That they have quite a lot of silverware.

They were the German Champions 2 times, 2nd Bundesliga Champion 3 times, Oberliga Berlin Champions 8 times, Gauliga Berlin-Brandenburg Champions 3 times, DFB-Ligapokal Champions 2 times, Berliner Landespokal Champions 13 times. They have won the Berlin Cup 10 times, and the now discontinued UEFA Intertoto Cup 5 times.

Yes. They have a lot of silverware!


6. That their current General Manager is their top scorer.

Board Member Michael Preetz has scored the most goals for the club - 93! Oh and he is the General Manager of the club.

Yea! Another Club Legend!


7. That they were the founding members of the German Football Association in 1900.

The DFB (Deutscher Fußball-Bund or German Football Association) was formed January 28, 1900 in Leipzig. The commonly accepted number of founding clubs represented at the inaugural meeting is 86, but this number is uncertain. However on 84 votes can be accounted for (62 in favor and 22 not in favor of the league). Hertha Berlin was one of the members present there!

Intersting isn’t it? They were one of the few clubs who are a part of the history of the league itself!


8. That The German National Football team shares their stadium.

The Olympiastadion – their current stadium is also used by the German national football team and is also used for other events. Their stadium was also used to host the finals of the 2006 Mens World Cup and 2011 Womens World Cup and the Champions League Final 2015.


Yea! Staying in Berlin has it’s perks!


9. That Prior to their success they had to merge in order to sustain.

The club was formed in 1892 as BFC Hertha 92. The Club has since its inception performed well on and off the field. However, poor financial conditions lead to their merger with Berliner Sports Club in 1920. After their first Championship victory in 1930, the two sides split in a deal which saw Hertha Berlin retain their name and the stadium as compensation.

Erm,They won another Championship the next year and were the second most successful side during the inter-war years! Legendary stuff!


10. That they have a strong youth side

Their youth side has won 6 tournaments in the last 15 years. They have won the German Under 17 championship 3 times, Under 19 Bundesliga North/Northeast 2 times and Under 17 Bundesliga North/Northeast 1 time.

Yea Kevin-Prince Boateng, he is Hertha Berlin Graduate!
