Rumor Of the Day – Chelsea wanted Lionel Messi!

Chelsea was sensationally planning to swoop Barcelona’s talisman Lionel Messi all along this summer’s transfer window.

If reports by Spanish TV channel TV3 are to be believed then, Chelsea made a mammoth bid of €150million (£118m) for the Argentine superstar. If accepted then it would have been way over the current transfer record of €100 million, which Real Madrid paid for Gareth Bale.

The Spanish outlet revealed that the London club sprang in action after it was evident that Messi was unsettled at Barca under the stewardship of fellow Argentine Tata Martino. But both the player and the club were least interested in the move.

Anyways Messi decided to stay and is certainly in top form under club legend Luis Enrique. The deal, if would have gone through was very much possible for the Blues after they made almost £90 million from player sales this summer which kept their financial sheets clean.
