Aakash Khadka strikes in Tigers win
Mumbai:Golden Tigers staved off a strong, spirited challenge from Naaz United to carve out a hard-fought 1-0 win in a 5th round match of the Colaba Super League, conducted under auspices of the MDFA, supported by Aadhar Pratishthan and played at the Back Gardens, Colaba.
After both the team began cautiously, Golden Tigers managed find the breakthrough in the 14th minute, when striker Aakash Khadka kept his cool to complete a neat finish for the lone goal of the match.
Trailing 0-1 Naaz United staged a strong second half display as the lanky Walter Liu and the seasoned Karim Shaikh tried their best to score but they were unable to find the net as the Tigers defended resolutely to clinch the victory.
Golden Tigers goalkeeper, Prakash Chavan was rightly adjudged the Man of the Match for a heroic performance in goal.
In another match, Konaark Realators overcame Kalakaar Indians 3-2 via the tie-breaker after the scores were locked 1-all at the end of the first half.
Kalakaar Indians took the lead when Roger Sam latched onto a loose ball and set up Anil Pawar who made no mistake in slotting home in the 13th minute. Konaark came back with renewed vigour in the second period and struck the equaliser through Chirag Walmiki as the match ended 1-1 and went into the penalty shootout.
In the tie-breaker consisting of 3 kicks each, Konaark Realators successfully converted through Mrunal Tandel and Aditya Contrullu, while only Dheeraj Mestry could score for Kalakaar Indians.
