Mumbai, March 30: ONGC (Oil & Natural Gas Corporation) struck once in each half to overcome a fighting Mumbai Customs 2-0 in an Elite Division encounter of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) League – 2014-15, played at the Cooperage ground, on Monday evening.
Last season’s runners-up ONGC opened the scoring when their key striker Kailash Patil found the net in the 24th minute. ONGC doubled the lead when Tariq Ahammad beat Customs goalkeeper Lihyaz Koya late in the second half.
Result, Elite Division: ONGC 2 (Kailash Patil 24th, Tariq Ahammad 84th) beat Mumbai Customs 0.
Jogeshwari FC, Sagar MM in 4-4 draw
Mumbai, March 30: Jogeshwari Football Club and Sagar Mitra Mandal played out a high-scoring 4-4 draw in an exciting Third Division match of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) League – 2014-15, played at the St. Xavier’s ground, Parel on Monday.
Both the teams went on the offensive from the start and there was plenty of action in front of goal at either end. For the Jogeshwari team the goals were scored by Sandesh Tatkar, Tanmay Welkar, Shantanu Dabholkar and Vijay Shukla, while Aakar R., Nitesh Nikam, Chinmay Hadkar and Prathamesh Harmalkar were on target for Sagar Mitra Mandal.
In another match of the same division, Supreme Sports Club outplayed 7-B Star by a comfortable 5-0 margin. Smit Koli, Siddharth T., Swetaj Kedkar, Darshan V. and Rahul Garge scored a goal each for the winners.
Results – Div-III: Jogeswari FC 4 (Sandesh Tatkar, Tanmay Welkar, Shantanu Dabholkar, Vijay Shukla) drew with Sagar Mitra Mandal 4 (Aakar R., Nitesh Nikam, Chinmay Hadkar, Prathamesh Harmalkar).

RCF down Central to lift Inter-Railway title
Mumbai, March 30: Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala prevailed over Central Railway, Mumbai by a narrow 1-0 margin in the final of the 36th All India Railway Hockey (Women) Championship 2014-15, organised by the Western Railway Sports Association and played at the MHAL Stadium, Churchgate, on Monday.
In the closely contested summit clash, the Kapurthala outfit made a bright positive start by taking an early lead and then defended well against their Mumbai opponents to emerge victorious. Prolific scorer Sangeeta Minz netted the all-important winning goal which sealed the win.
Central Railway fought hard and tried their best to find an equalising goal, but without much success.
In the Third place match, South Eastern Railway blanked Nothern Railway 5-0. The hard-working and enterprising scorer Binita Xess netted a brace while Kavita Maurya, Punam Madhuri Tete and Nikki Pradhan chipped in with one apiece to complete the winning tally.
Results - Final: Rail Coach Factory 1 (Sangeeta Minz) beat Central Railway 0.
Third place: South Eastern Railway 5 (Binita Xess 2, Kavita Mauyra, Punam Madhuri Tete, Nikki Pradhan) beat Northern Railway 0.
