FC Porto shock tournament favourites Bayern Munich as they trounce them 3-1 at Estadio de Dragao thanks to a superb brace from Quaresma. The former Chelsea man scored a quickfire brace to give Bayern a rude shock.
The hosts started brightly against a Bayern squad who had barely 14 players to fill in for the match. No sympathies to Bayern and full credit to Porto for punishing some sloppy play from the German giants. Dragoes got into the action straightaway as Jackson Martinez was fouled by Manuel Neuer inside the penalty box and the referee wasted no time in awarding the spot kick. Quaresma stepped and calmly sent Neuer the wrong way.
Porto doubled their lead in seven minutes with Quaresma once again stepping up to land a killer blow. This time around it was Dante who gave the Portuguese ball 40 yards away from his goal. The 31 year old galloped towards Neuer’s goal before slotting the ball past him.
Bayern tried to fight back as Thiago scored for the Bavarians but it still wasn’t enough for them to claw their way back in the game. Jackson Martinez scored on his return as he rounded Neuer and pumped the ball into an empty net.
Currently Porto are favourites to cause a huge upset in this season but a return leg in Allianz Arena is yet to be played before the party shall officially begin in Lisbon.
