Rohan Dalvi to lead MAI India team in WMF World Cup


Mumbai: Rohan Dalvi has been appointed captain of the Minifootball Association of India (MAI) selected Indian team which will participate in the 2015 World Mini Football (WMF) World Cup to be played at arenas across the United States later this month. The WMF World Cup will be played in the six-a-side, boarded style familiar throughout North America.


According to a press release from, Shri Sunil Purnapatre, Secretary General, Minifootball Association of India, the coach of the 12-member Indian team is Vitthal Shirgaonkar and Agish Antony is the Team Manager.


The World Cup organised by the Confederacion Panamericana Minifutbol (CPM) in association with World Mini Football (WMF) will feature 12 countries, which have been divided in three groups.


India has been drawn in Group ‘B’, which include Germany, Mexico and Romania and will play their matches at the Allen Event Centre in Allen, Texas, home of the Dallas Sidekicks.


The US National Arena Soccer Team is placed in Group ‘A’ along with the Czech Republic, El Salvador, and Kazakhstan. Group ‘C’ features Canada, Serbia, Brazil and Russia.


The event marks the first World Cup for WMF and will be the largest major world championship for arena soccer since the 1997 World Indoor Championships that were played in Mexico City. The WMF is the highest authority of minifootball in the world.


Team India List: Rohan Dalvi (Captain), Emanuel Mehta (Vice-captain), Amey Borkar, Varun Jadeja, Yazad Aga, Roger Pinto, Sangram Lonkar (GK), Girik Khosla, Mohnish Nikam, Trishank Paralikar (GK), Akshay Saraf, Mandar Ambre, Vitthal Shirgaonkar (Coach), Agish Antony (Team Manager).


Groupings - Group A: USA, Czech Republic, El Salvador, Kazakhstan.


Group B: Mexico, Romania, India, Germany.


Group C: Canada, Russia, Brazil, Serbia.
