Saturday in this week’s Barclays Premier League was played along the expected lines but Sunday was complete antithesis of it. North London was bearing the brunt as both the teams lost their respective ties.
Stoke stunned Spurs at Lane while Swansea continued to impress by registering a comeback against Arsenal at the Liberty Stadium. Arsenal’s defeat was more shocking as compared to Spurs.
Spurs looked to close gap on fourth placed West Ham as they hosted an inconsistent Stoke City side who have blown a bit hot and cold. To Spurs predicament they were red hot yesterday at the Lane. Stoke took a shock lead through Bojan Krkic who just bamboozled Spurs’ backline with his impeccable movement and finish.
But Stoke were in no mood to rest on a slim lead and then they struck once again at the half hour mark as John Walters thumped the ball home past Hugo Lloris. Spurs were then had a mountain to climb.
The hosts pulled one back but it was too late as Nacer Chadli’s strike could not prevent Mauricio Pottechino’s boys from dropping 3 points at home.
On the other hand, Spurs’ neighbors lost to Swans in a very contrasting manner to them. Arsenal blew away their one goal lead to succumb to a 2-1 defeat. Swans were rallied by a spirited Gylfi Siggurdson who chipped in with a goal and a assist. Bafetimbi Gomis finally opened his account in English football and that too in some style!
He scored the winning goal for the home sides who unsettled a charged up Gunners side, riding high on Alexis Sanchez’s form, who scored for them in a losing cause.
