Former France international Eric Abidal, announced his retirement as he said it was time. Abidal who was a part of Barcelona's most successful era, returned to playing after undergoing a liver transplant in April 2012.
Abidal who played in this year's world in Brazil, managed to play 67 times for the Les Blues. Abidal who has been supported by his teammate's and the whole of football is one of the most loved footballers.
He had stints at clubs including Barcelona, Lyon, Monaco and, most recently, Olympiakos, and played in the Greek club’s 2-0 Super League win at home to Panionios on Wednesday.
Abidal was quoted saying:
“Today I announce my decision to end my career here at Olympiakos,”
“The reasons are personal. Every top-level player understands that there comes a time and my time has come.”
Eric Abidal, said there was a possibility he will join coaching staff in future:
“Now what I want to do is rest and enjoy spending time with my family and then I will take some decisions as far as my future is concerned,” Abidal said.
