The Newcastle Situation
Newcastle will be relegated if they lose to West Ham and if Hull City manages to beat Manchester United of what can only be described as a nail-biting survival which we will see on Sunday. The Toons’ have lost 9 of their last 10 games.
Newcastle have lost 19 games this season conceding 63 goals in 37 games this season. They have won just 9 games where as they earned a point each for 9 matches. The players of the Newcastle have been criticised earlier this season for not playing up to the mark and for their “don’t care” attitude. A Banner held by fans after a premier league game stating “ We don’t want a team that wins but one that tries” says it all.
Defender Dummett is sure that the players are ready for the challenge and will give in their best to ensure survival. Dummet said: “It’s still in our hands. I think the fans are probably sick of us saying that as we’ve let ourselves down in the past where we didn’t produce but luckily it’s still in our hands now, it doesn’t matter what happens with Hull as long as we win our game then we’ll be ok.
“The more games that have been coming and the more games we’ve been losing, the pressure’s been building and building and building. Now it’s come down to the crucial time where we can no longer make any excuses, we have to produce this Sunday coming.” He added.
“I think a lot of players in this squad have never been in this position before so there’s a lot of pressure. I think especially me as well being a local player, being a fan, not wanting the club to go down, it’s something I don’t want to see happen. He further added.
“There are a few players who have got experience, who have been relegated before, and they know exactly how it felt and what it was like. They’re desperate – everyone in there’s desperate for it not to happen again.” He further said.
Hull City and Newcastle are the only two clubs which can get relegated this week. Sunderland secured their place in league after their 0 – 0 draw against Arsenal on Wednesday. If Hull City lose to United, they’d still be in the premier league as they are ahead Newcastle on goal difference. The Toons’ have to secure a win when they face West Ham in order to keep some hope alive. A draw or a loss however, would ensure their relegation. Newcastle were previously relegated in 2009 when Club Legend and caretaker, Alan Shearer, failed to keep them in the Premier League after a series of awful games.
