Uzbeks downed a valiant Indian side by scoring two late goals to snatch all three points the colts opened their AFC qualifier campaign with a defeat. It was a brave display from the Indian side at Bangabandhu Stadium in Dhaka.
India defended doggedly for majority of the game as the young keeper Amarinder Singh kept the Blues in the game. His key saves gave India a chance to go for a win or even a draw. It took 87 minutes for Uzbekistan to break the Indian defense. A shabby set piece did the nervous Blues defence in. Amarinder Singh who had a stellar night till then, committed a howler which gave Igor Sergeev, a sniff at the goal and he didn’t miss it
This goal gave India some hope of salvaging a draw bu the Asian giants once again pounced on India’s mistake as Vladimir Kozak scored deep into the stoppage time. Savio Madeira’s boys had chance to take lead on quite a few times but their wastefulness upfront gave Uzbeks the hope and a chance to run away with the game. Jayesh Rane’s header in the 72nd minute was the best chance India had to take the lead but his free header from five yards went off target.
India will have a chance to redeem themselves against Bangladesh when the play host nation in their next match.
