Warriors down Sellebrity for 2nd win
Mumbai: Mumbai Warriors SC showed great character as they came from 1-2 down to register a deserving 4-2 against Sellebrity SC in a Super Division playoff match of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) League – 2014-15, played at the St. Xavier’s ground, Parel.
This was the second consecutive win for Warriors, who now tally 6 points from three games, while Sellebrity suffered their third successive defeat.
Warriors suffered an early setback as they conceded a goal on the half-hour mark when against the run of play Subodh Khandagale found the net. But Warriors soon leveled the scoreline through striker Vishal Venu. Just when things were proceeding on an even keel and the first half poised for a 1-1 finish, Sellebrity once again took the lead through the efforts of John Pereira.
On resumption, Warriors thumped in three goals in a space of 10 minutes to run away to victory. First striker Ikenna Ahukanna after receiving a pass from midfielder Henry Oreji did well o slot home past rival goalkeeper to make 2-2. Later, Oreji after a fine solo effort deftly chipped over an onrushing goalkeeper to snatch the lead for Warriors before striker Ahukkana with a headed effort completed the win for his team.
Earlier in a First Division encounter, Liston Fonseca and Dujon Koli struck a goal each as HDFC SC blanked Steadfast FC 2-0 to walk away with the full three points.
Results – Super Div (play-off): Mumbai Warriors SC 4 (Ikenna Ahukanna 2, Vishal Venu, Henry Oreji) beat Sellebrity FC 2 (Subodh khandagale, John Pereira).
Div-I: HDFC SC 2 (Liston Fonseca, Dujon Koli) beat Staedfast FC 0.
MDFA to hold classes for new referees
Mumbai: The Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) determined to groom referees will be conducting classes for beginners at the St. Xavier’s ground, Parel, from April 15, 2015. These classes will provide an opportunity for youngsters to become professional referees.
The classes will consists of extensive theory and practical sessions, under the supervision of renowned referee instructors from the AIFF panel of referees.
The course is open for men and women who are below the age of 35 years and have a minimum qualification of SSC passed.
All clubs affiliated with MDFA are requested to send at least two persons to attend the course.
All those who are interested to become professional referees may kindly enroll their names with MDFA office, Parel, on or before 10th April, 2015.
