Napoli ran riot in Germany as they thrashed Wolfsburg 4-1 with Marek Hamsek scoring a brace. Former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner pulled one back for the hosts as Rafa Benitez’s side laid German counterparts to sword.
Gonzalo Higuain opened Napoli’s account with a super goal in the 15th minute as he outwitted Wolfburg keeper Benaglio with a smart finish. The Argentine truly set the tempo for the night as the Italian side grew in stature.
After initial flourish from Higuain it was time for Marek Hamsek to join the party. The Slovakian midfielder just was unstoppable as he bulldozed his way in midfield and also chipped in with a brace. He opened his account in 28th minute with splendid strike. Wolfsburg pulled one back at the stroke of the half time through Bendtner as Schrrule’s cut back gave him enough time to tap the ball into the net.
Hamsek once again rose to the occasion in the second half as he scored a screamer from 20 yards. It was all but over for Wolfsburg after this goal. But the torment was not over yet. Manolo Gabbiadini added a fourth for the Blues within moments after he replaced Hamsek. The win gives Napoli a very healthy advantage for the home leg in Naples.
