We are continuing with our build up to the biggest match in the world, El Classico. This time we are having a look at the micro battles around the pitch which could make or break the tie for both the teams.

Defense:

We will start with the defense of both teams. Barca are known for their new found defensive solidity this season. While Real are still far from their defensive best.

Key men:

Raphael Varane – The French youngster is by far the best defender in this Real Madrid side based on form. He will be crucial if Real plan to shut out the troika of Messi, Neymar and Suarez.

Jordi Alba – The Spanish international is key to Barca’s success at Santiago Bernabeu. He will be expected to keep an in form Cristiano Ronaldo at bay and also perform his offensive duties.

Midfield:

The possession hogging Barcelona thrives on their midfield. It is imperative to stop their midfield to get into any sort of rhythm. Midfield is where this match will be won and lost.

Key Men:

Andres Iniesta – The magician has to perform his best trick to propel Catalan’s to Classico glory. He is heart and soul of the Barcelona attack.

Luka Modric – The deep lying playmaker is key to Real Madrid’s counterattacking approach. If he has a bad game, it is all over for Los Blancos. With no Xabi Alonso, it all depends on this Croat.

Forwards:

This is the department where both teams are spoilt for choices. There is abundance in both quality and quantity.

Key Men:

These are pretty obvious choices and probably everyone knows who they are. They are the poster boys of world football – Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Ronaldo is on fire at the moment and he simply looks unstoppable. Teams and defences don’t matter to him right now. On the contrary, Messi is finally showing his more human side. He is in good run of form but not the godly best which we are used to watching.
