Manchester United veteran Rio Ferdinand has moved away from the Old Trafford club after 12 years to join the Premier League returners Queens Park Rangers on a one-year-deal.
The 35-year-old was convinced that with the arrival of new coach Louis van Gaal and his revamping plans his presence wouldn’t be required anymore which made him put pen to the paper for the rich Loftus Road team.
The deal would earn him £70,000 per week under Coach Harry Redknapp who after the signing claimed that the former England captain was his first transfer target of the season.
With the signing Rio will reunite with Redknapp under whom he debuted as a senior for West Ham United in 1995.
He spoke to QPR’s official website and said: “I used to sit in the Loft – my Dad used bring me here as a young boy. QPR was the first professional club to ever sign me.
“There are great memories for me here – for my family,” said the 11 time trophy winner.
